Resolved Question: disturbing the peace laws?

I live in Campbell, California and I have a band. I'll be honest we aren't always the quietest but a few days ago we were practice and one of my neighbors complained to the police and a police man came to my house and at first requested us to turn it down but then came back after talking to the complainer and said we were done for the day and if he got another complaint he would give us a ticket and he would impound our equipment until we have a court date 4-5 months later. I attempted to do research on this. I say attempted because apparently California nor my local town of Campbell have any sort of definite laws concerning noise other than basically: "if you're loud, you get a ticket." I find this hard to believe and I would like to know some concrete information about how loud is loud according to Campbell, California.
